INUKSUK – UN NOUVEAU DÉPART
Au nom d’AVI-Canada, je veux tout d’abord remercier l’équipe de L’Avenir d’Auroville pour leur intervention rappelant à tous que « C’est seulement l’équipe de planification de L’Avenir qui a le mandat d’approuver la construction de bâtiments ou leur relocalisation. »
Merci également à nos amis d’AVI pour leurs bons mots de compréhension et de soutien, ainsi que les Auroviliens et autres amis reliés à Auroville qui nous ont offert un appui sans équivoque à l’encontre de cette idée de déménagement de l’Inuksuk, qui avait été mise de l’avant, même si elle n’avait pas encore été officiellement exprimée. Je pense que désormais tout le monde comprend et accueille notre point de vue à l’effet que l’Inuksuk constitue un symbole universel, susceptible de nous guider vers un concept plus global de l’unité humaine dans la Zone Internationale.
Un nouveau départ est maintenant possible, et les Canadiens d’Auroville ainsi qu’AVI-Canada vont poursuivre leur fructueuse collaboration en continuant de s’occuper de l’environnement de l’Inuksuk, de la même façon que les Américains continuent à gérer le développement de la Maison internationale. Nous avons entrepris d’installer un raccordement d’eau à proximité, en vue d’un aménagement paysager, qui pourra très bien se combiner avec le symbole culturel européen en préparation. Un agréable parc pourrait être développé à cet endroit, pour le bénéfice de tous les Auroviliens et des visiteurs.
En tant qu’AVIs nous devons maintenant nous activer à favoriser le développement de l’espace dédié aux différents pavillons et encourager les initiatives avancées par les groupes des différentes nationalités, étant donné que nous n’avons que très peu de réalisations accomplies à ce jour, en dehors de ce qui constitue l’espace de l’Inde. Et concernant les récentes réalisations, telles que l’habitat temporaire, le projet d’art Sankalpa, l’unité industrielle temporaire, le travail de collecte des eaux, etc., rappelons que tout ceci est le résultat de l’excellent travail réalisé depuis trois ans par le groupe précédent de coordination de la Zone, tout comme l’énorme travail de préparation faite pour le puits. Sans cette action préliminaire, la grande réussite de notre rencontre AVI de février 2014, qui a conduit au forage du puits et à la nouvelle impulsion à l’œuvre dans la Zone internationale, n’aurait pas été possible. Je pense que nous devrions tous être reconnaissants auprès des membres de ce groupe, qui a été remplacé, apparemment dans des circonstances nébuleuses et disgracieuses, alors que certains se trouvaient à l’étranger, et sans leur consentement.
Et c’est là que nous touchons au cœur du problème concernant le développement futur de la Zone internationale, car il y a deux approches apparemment opposées à l’œuvre depuis fort longtemps. Ne parlons pas ici en termes de personnes (car les personnes peuvent changer d’avis), ni en termes de groupes (les groupes peuvent changer aussi), mais plutôt en termes de tendances. L’une de ces tendances est davantage en faveur d’un développement organique, alors que l’autre préconise un développement planifié. En fait les deux tendances sont nécessaires et doivent cohabiter, travailler ensemble et s’équilibrer. Le problème est que, lorsque l’une des deux tendances est proéminente, elle ne peut accepter la présence de la contrepartie et tend à l’ignorer et à la rejeter.
Un plan est certes utile, mais devrait toujours être considéré comme un cadre dynamique et perfectible, et non comme un modèle préconçu, rigide et contraignant, qui étoufferait toute initiative individuelle et toute créativité. Et si ce plan est de plus utilisé par certains comme un simple moyen de contrôle, on peut alors malheureusement s’attendre à d’autres décennies d’inactivité dans la Zone. C’est pourquoi il nous revient à tous de continuer à être alertes et proactifs, afin qu’advienne enfin un développement harmonieux, créatif et vigoureux dans la Zone internationale.

INUKSHUK – A NEW START
On behalf of AVI-Canada I want first to thank the TDC/L’avenir planning team for their clarification reminding everybody that « It is only L’avenir that has the mandate to approve construction of building or their relocation. »
Thanks also to our friends of AVI for their good words of understanding and support, and particularly to the Aurovilians and other friends related to Auroville for their strong support and commitment against this idea of relocating the Inukshuk, that has been put forward, although not yet officially expressed. I think that from now everybody understand and welcome our point that the Inukshuk is a universal symbol able to lead us towards a more global concept of human unity in the Zone.
A new start is now possible, and Canadians Aurovilians altogether with AVI-Canada will continue their fruitful work of collaboration in taking care of the Inuksuk environment, in the same way as Americans are going on to be the caretakers of the International House. We are working to install a water connection nearby in order to develop a small garden around the Inukshuk, that can well combine with the European cultural symbol project to come. A beautiful Park can be developped at this place, for the benefits of all Aurovilians and visitors.
As AVIs, we have now to think of fostering the development of the international area, and encouraging the initiatives done by national groups, as we have by now very few realizations concerning National Pavilions outside of the Indian area. And for the recent realizations as Temporary housing, Sankalpa Art Project, Temporary industrial unit, water harvesting work, etc., all this is due to the remarkable efforts done by the previous IZ Coordination group since three years, as well as the huge preparation work done for the well. Without that preliminary work, the great success of our AVI meeting of February 2014, concluding by the digging of the well and the new impulse for the development of the Zone, could not have been possible. I think we should be all thankful to the members of the former coordination group, which has been replaced, apparently in a nebulous and disgraceful way, while some of their members were abroad and without their consent.
And here we touch the core of the problem concerning the future development of the International Zone, for two apparently opposite approaches are at work since a long time. Let’s not speak in terms of persons (persons may change their minds), nor in terms of groups (groups may change too), but rather in term of tendencies. One tendency is more for an organic development, the other one, more for a planned development. In fact, the two tendencies are necessary and have to cohabit, work together and find their balance. The problem is that, when a tendency is prominent, it cannot accept the presence of the counterpart and tends to reject or ignore it.
A plan is indeed useful, but should always be considered as a dynamic and changeable frame, not a rigid and compulsory preconceived model, stifling all individual initiative and creativity. And if this plan is used as a mere instrument of control for some people, we could then unfortunately anticipate some others decades of inactivity in the Zone. On the contrary, let’s all be always vigilant and proactive so that an harmonious, creative and vigorous development occurs in the International Zone.
