On peut avoir mentalement une forte admiration ou appréciation pour la grandeur intellectuelle ou spirituelle du Gourou – on peut le suivre et accepter ses directives. Mais si c’est seulement mental, cela ne nous mènera pas très loin. Certes, il n’y a rien de mal à avoir aussi cette approche mentale, mais ce n’est pas suffisant pour une ouverture complète de l’être intérieur, car seul un contact mental est établi. (…)

La bhakti psychique est différente. Comme le psychique communique avec la Divinité qui est derrière, il peut avoir une vraie bhakti. La bhakti psychique ne fait aucune demande, aucune réserve. Elle est, et cela lui suffit. L’être psychique sait comment obéir à la Vérité de la vraie manière. Il se donne vraiment à Dieu ou au Gourou, et parce qu’il peut se donner vraiment, il peut aussi recevoir vraiment.

In the mind one may have a strong admiration or appreciation for the intellectual or spiritual greatness of the Guru – follow him and mentally accept his dictates. But if it is merely mental, that does not carry you very far. Of course, there is no harm in having that also, but by itself it does not open the whole of the inner being; it only establishes a mental contact. (…)

Psychic Bhakti is not like that. Because it is in communication with de Divinity behind, it is capable of true Bhakti. Psychic Bhakti does not make any demand, it makes no reservations. It is satisfied with its own existence. The psychic being knows how to obey the Truth in the right way. It gives itself up truly to God or the Guru, and because it can give itself up truly, therefore it can also receive truly.
